Andy Golub's Nude Body Painting - Artistic Naked or Downright Lewd?

Nude Body Painting - Body painting is certainly one of our favorite things to do while nude, both at our indoor Unclothed Night Outs and at outdoor parties. It is a lively mixture of artwork, imagination and nudity and all you'll need is a brush (or your fingers) and some paint.
This really is what NYC artist Andy Golub does. In public. And in the most congested streets of The Big Apple! I got the chance to interview him about his art and encounters with the public and the authorities.
Andy got his start painting items, then mannequins, then transitioned to painting bodies. Naturist Holidays. have the extra added facet of personality and I incorporate their personality into the painting too, he said. He then began painting live in public so folks could view the procedure. But his live work with topfree and totally naked models didn't just blend into the crowd in Times Square. The first time he did it, he was kicked out.

Coming from a naturist's viewpoint, I was most interested in learning about the facet of public artwork and nudity. How can the city and law enforcement react when they see live art with a lot of skin? (Yeah I Have been down this road before.) So how exactly does Andy see nudity as an artist and in general?
Public nudity is actually legal in NYC when it is part of a play, performance, display or show. (Of So what do we share amongst the members of this club? Amongst all of us, only one thing: nudism. must appear, what makes up a show?) Yet, when one of Andy's models removed her g-string leaving her completely unclothed in Times Square, policemen were prepared with their handcuffs. Charges were dropped, but a compromise remains: he is abiding by a rule to paint totally bare models just after sunlight goes down. Every year when the good weather begins to make the nearby cherry trees to blossom, it is time for us to plan our next summer holidays. has been notified of this, and Andy does not anticipate additional trouble from them when he resumes his work outside.
As expected, there are people who believe what Andy does is flat out wrong, and though Andy honors their sense of morality, he also says many of them are not able to see nudity without seeing sexuality. I don't believe what I'm doing is improper, in fact I 'd even say what I'm doing is just the opposite because it's enabling people to see nudity in a nonsexual manner. (Sound familiar?) He says folks who do comprehend his work, see that it's totally nonsexual. Everything comes down to shame, he says, and trouble ensues when naked or semi-nude people do not feel others' sense of shame. All too true.
I noted that it is funny you are able to hardly tell the models are nude at all when completely painted. Andy answered the controversy is not over what people see, but what they don't seea strap or line. Just knowing the model is bare is enough to create a buzz. Obviously the issue of kids seeing his work has come up as well. He states, the entire notion that children need to be shielded from it entails that it is sexual in nature, that it is a peep show. And I am not doing a peep show, I am doing artwork.
Unclothed Body Art By Andy Golub
I want to just share this last quotation by which he describes his art:
In a lot of people's lives there is a certain disconnect that is the result of technology and the manner we communicateUltimately I believe my artwork is about human link.
Beautiful! It's possible for you to see more of Andy's art and press coverage on his website at andygolub.com
What would you think of the city's answer to it? If asked, would you ever participate in public unclothed body art as one of his models?
